Workforce development has become an increasingly critical concern for the semiconductor industry. In this presentation Mary Puma, Executive Chairperson of Axcelis Technologies and Chair of SEMI, will speak about the industry’s need to work together to attract enough talent, and specifically enough of the right talent, to be able to produce and meet the global demand for semiconductors. Mary will elaborate on the talent gaps that exist around the world and highlight issues that contribute to the war for talent including poor awareness and reputation, cyclicality and less than stellar culture and pay practices in our industry. She will also touch on how the semiconductor industry is an increasingly rare example of an industry that provides solid career opportunities across the education and skills spectrum. Mary will give an overview of the robust and holistic Workforce Development programs developed by SEMI and present a proposal on how SEMI can lead in building our industry brand.
