Dr. James Tu is an accomplished leader in information technology and information security, with over 30 years of experience in the field. Currently, he serves as Head of Corporate Information Security at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC), where he oversees Global Cybersecurity, Proprietary Data Protection, Physical Security Engineering, Supply Chain Security Management, and related Certification and Compliance.
Dr. Tu has held senior leadership positions at several notable companies, including Yahoo, CB Richard Ellis, International Rectifier, Infineon, and Danaher.
Over the past 12 years, Dr. Tu has focused on information technology and information security in semiconductors and manufacturing, earning him the distinction of being named one of the "Top 15 Chief Information Security Officers" by SecurityScorecard in 2018.
Dr. Tu and his team at TSMC established the TSMC Supply Chain Security Association in July 2019, with a global vision to leverage TSMC’s leadership and influence over its suppliers to create a ripple effect to elevate global supply chain security.
Under Dr. Tu's leadership, TSMC developed its own Supplier Security Assessment & Improvement Methodology, which creates a unique supplier security profile score based on self-assessment and third-party evaluation services. The score is further linked to timely remediation results and purchasing decisions.
Since the third quarter of 2019, TSMC Supply Chain Security Association has issued quarterly newsletters to around 3,000 suppliers with more than 50,000 subscribers, along with on-demand alerts. In November 2020, the Supplier Sustainability Academy was established to provide training courses.
Dr. James Tu is also the founder and inaugural chairman of SEMI Taiwan Cybersecurity Committee, which aims to raise supply chain security, and build supply resilience through cybersecurity. In just one year, the committee has achieved many initiatives, including publishing the SEMI E187 Adoption Reference Architecture Guide, standardizing member security self-assessment templates, and introducing security profile score services to SEMI members in Q4 2022.
