Besançon, France
Sylvain Ballandras joined the CNRS in 1991, developing his research in acoustic wave devices for RF applications. He was involved in a joined laboratory between CNRS and the Thomson group (TMX) from 1995 to 2005. From 1999 to 2005, he was responsible of the research group entitled « Acoustique et Microsonique » at CNRS. From 2005 to 2008, he shared the direction of a joined laboratory between TEMEX and FEMTO-ST for SAW filters and sensors. In 2008, he created CoSyMA research team for industry/academic partnerships in acoustics. He has been involved in the creation of the company SENSeOR devoted to wireless SAW sensors as CSO from 2008 to 2012. In March 2013, he left the CNRS to create his company, frec|n|sys, devoted to the design, fabrication and marketing of SAW filters, resonators and sensors. In 2017, he sold frec|n|sys to SOITEC fo accelerating the maturation of SOITEC POI wafers. He is a member of the IEEE UFFC Society. He received the IEEE IFCS Cady Award in 2022. In 2023, frec|n|sys was ttally integrated in the SOITEC group and became SAW filter design and manufacturing Unit, SOITEC -Besançon. Sylvain Ballandras thus became Manager of this Unit.
