Vijay Raghunathan is the Director of Semiconductor Education at Purdue University and a Professor and Associate Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). He leads university-level workforce development initiatives in semiconductors and microelectronics including the nation-leading Semiconductor Degrees Program (SDP). He is also a Fellow of the President’s Task Force on Semiconductors at Purdue.
As Associate Head, Vijay oversees all the graduate and professional programs in Purdue’s largest academic unit, the Elmore Family School of ECE (with over 1200 graduate students), including the Ph.D. program and the school’s most recent initiatives – an industry-track MS program and an online MS program (ranked #1 by US News and World Report for three years in a row).
Vijay directs the Embedded Systems and Internet of Things (IoT) Lab and serves as a principal investigator on several large multi-university research centers, including the SRC/DARPA JUMP Center on Brain-Inspired Computing (C-BRIC), the SRC/DARPA JUMP2.0 Center for the Codesign of Cognitive Systems (CoCoSys) and the SRC/DARPA JUMP2.0 Center for Cognitive Multi-spectral Sensors (Cognisense). He has published over 100 research papers at premier journals and conferences in the field of embedded systems, VLSI Design, and IoT systems and his research has been recognized with nine best paper/design awards and several more best paper/design nominations. He has been the recipient of several other awards including the NSF Career Award, the Under-40 Innovators Award from the IEEE/ACM Design Automation Conference and was selected as a Purdue University Faculty Scholar. He has served as general co-chair and technical program co-chair for numerous top IEEE/ACM conferences in my field and on the board/steering committee of the Industry Internet Consortium (IIC), one of the largest consortia in the world focused on Industrial Internet-of-Things.
He received the B. Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He also holds the Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman Visiting Chair Professorship at his alma mater, IIT Madras.
