Denise Zieske is the Director of Workforce Development for the State University of New York (SUNY) in the Office of Community Colleges and the Education Pipeline. She develops and implements workforce programs and related initiatives for SUNY’s colleges and supports SUNY’s workforce efforts at the state and national level.
Denise administers the $18.0 million SUNY Apprenticeship Program which, in partnership with the New York State Department of Labor, coordinates activities to expand Registered Apprenticeships in NYS with a focus on advanced manufacturing, healthcare and other high demand areas. This program is complemented by the nearly $8.0 million USDOL funded NY College Apprenticeship Network focused specifically on apprenticeships in advanced manufacturing.
Denise further oversees several SUNY programs including workforce development training grants and future of work centers, both funded through New York State that provide training opportunities to meet employers’ needs across the state. A final program is the $4.4 million Reimagine Workforce Preparation grant which supports short-term and career pathway programming to train individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to joining SUNY, Denise served as the Vice President for Workforce Development and Community Education at SUNY Schenectady County Community College. She has previously worked at Tech Valley High School, the Albany County Airport Authority, Center for Economic Growth and Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce (now the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce). Her career has included work in many aspects of economic and workforce development.
Denise holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University at Albany.
